Hearts that beat as one with fists that hit a ton

Happy Valentine’s Day! Sure, sure, it’s a made up holiday (thanks, Chaucer) that can be pretty lame. Then again, aren’t all holidays (like all words) made up? I aim to inject a little geeky fun into the day. In place of chocolate, roses, or even wine how about some comic book power couples falling in love while taking out super villains? All the many different couplings and even hook-ups may strike a soap opera tone, but they are a staple of all storytelling, including comics. Besides, isn’t a story a little more enjoyable when you have a couple or five to root for? Or a couple you love to hate? (Looking at you, Gambit and Rogue.)

That was the topic for the latest episode of our Coffee ‘n’ Capes podcast. John and I had a blast with this conversation, maybe you will too? We included couples in geek culture beyond comics as well. As you might guess from the header, my first choice was T’Challa (Black Panther) and Ororo Munroe (Storm). Who else did we pick? Well, that’s what the podcast is for!

But I will show you the list from which I was pulling (some pretty obvious ones and some fairly deep cuts), in no particular order:
Batman & Catwoman
Nightwing & Batgirl
Nightwing & Starfire
Superman & Lois Lane
Wonder Woman & Steve Trevor
Spider-man & MJ
Spider-man & Gwen
Stacey Spider-man & Black Cat
Steve Rogers & Sharon Carter
Black Panther & Storm
Hawkeye & Mockingbird
Hawkeye & Black Widow
Scarlet Witch & Vision
Hulkling & Wiccan
Apollo & Midnighter
Jean Grey & Cyclops
Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy
Black Canary & Green Arrow
Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) & Carol Ferris (Star Saphire)
Aquaman & Mera
Reed Richards & Sue Storm
Thing & Alicia Masters
Jessica Jones & Luke Cage
Daredevil & Elektra
Barry Allen (Flash) & Iris West
Zatanna & John Constantine
Invincible & Atom Eve
Thanos & Death
Hela & Karnilla
Mystique & Destiny
Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) & James “Rhodey” Rhodes (War Machine)

How about you? Who are your favorite comic book and/or geek culture couples? Who did we miss? Which of our choices surprised you?
